Chicago real estate, living and neighborhood perspective

Thank You

I have just received my hardcover copy of Giving 2.0: Transform Your Giving and Our World and would like to thank Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen, as well as the Giving 2.0 Team for sending it to me.

I believe that many businesses have the ability to transform and influence change.  In the past, @properties has been extremely active in helping to raise funds for relief, including the $15,000 raised towards the Earthquake and Tsunami relief efforts in Japan and the $35,000 raised for Haiti relief efforts and the current drive for the @properties Friends and Neighbors charitable organization which is helping the Maryville Academy.

But beyond this, I have noticed that through the difficulty of current economic uncertainty, that sometimes many overlook the ability to give outside monetary means – giving through their gift of time, experience and resources. Many times, I have been asked to consult with people helping them through this difficult time; some are faced with impending foreclosure or looking to rebuild after financial ruin.  In this economically strained environment, where there is even more pressure to “close the deal,” and many transactions hang by the thread, for some giving may not be an option. So for them, every day may be just “another day at the office.” But it isn’t for me or the people I meet with.

My discussion with them changes what they do now, how they plan for the future and the means they accomplish it with.  For them, it’s not just a home, a place to hang your hat.

It’s the living room their child took their first steps; the backyard they planted a vegetable garden; the porch to have coffee and watched the sun rise.  This market wasn’t just disastrous for investors and speculators, but it ended the dreams many were living.

So what’s next?   I will continue to meet with people, clients and industry leaders and continue, to give my gift of time, knowledge and experiences I have seen.  Hopefully this brings closure to some, perhaps creates possibility when there was none before and empowers others to prevent this type of scenario from repeating…

I will be more than happy to share key insight from the book in future posts and as always, welcome any questions from readers.
